The artist Maryna Makarenko grew up in the former film city of Shostka. Her grandmother and mother both worked at Svema, the largest film factory in the Soviet Union, with her mother continuing to work there even during her pregnancy with Makarenko. In her sound performance TO THOSE WHO NEVER HEAR US AGAIN, WHO LISTEN ALL THE TIME, presented in the hall of the former cinema in Wolfen, Makarenko took the audience on an auditory journey through the Svema film factory. She wove the factory’s sounds together with personal biographical stories about the women in her family, who were directly or indirectly connected to Svema.
