FROM DARKNESS A MORNING GLORY
Oscar Olivo und Elsa Saade
Performance
Former fire department Wolfen, Germany
2024
Like Wolfen, the former film city of Rochester carries a legacy of severe environmental pollution. Once home to Kodachrome, Rochester was long considered one of the most polluted cities in the United States. Lake Ontario and the downstream areas of the Kodak Park neighborhood still bear the marks of toxic chemicals discharged by the film factory, and residents of Kodak Park were exposed to carcinogenic substances.
New York–based artists Amy Trompetter and Oscar Olivo have traced the city’s ecological scars in their work. In their puppet theater performance, they imagine a world in which flowers and insects reclaim and transform these poisoned landscapes.
